Bone out of Place - Practitioners sometimes
say that a patient has a bone that's out of place.
While this can happen, it's very rare. >more |
Bone Scan - A bone scan is used to detect
fracture or bone activity that would otherwise be
difficult to see on x-ray. >more |
Chemical Radiculitis - Inflammation around
nerves is best treated using epidural steroid
injections or selective nerve root blocks. >more |
Pulled Ligaments - Ligaments in the wrist
and hand can become stretched by direct trauma
during an accident. >more |
Post whiplash headaches or cervicogenic headaches
(literally headaches from the neck) appear to have
a few different causes. >more |
Impairment Ratings - cervical

Lumbar ratings>more
|
Instability - If a ligament was torn
or stretched, this would cause pain and swelling
in the joint as well as popping and cracking.
The joint would become unstable. >more |
Leg Length Discrepancy (LLD) - Many
practitioners have associated a difference in the
length of the legs with low back pain. >more |
Ligaments also play a key role in telling
the bones how much to move and protecting the
joints and nerves. When these structures are
injured, thy usually heal. However,
sometimes they can't heal and instability occurs. >more |
The longus colli is a commonly injured
muscle in rear end whiplash injuries. >more |
The multifidi are the stabilizers of the
spine. They are small muscles that are very deep
and right up against the vertebra. In the neck,
weakness in these muscles leads to loss of the
normal curvature. >more |
Myelopathy can cause all four extremity
numbness, tingling, and sometimes weakness. >more |
A
stretched SI Joint can cause some extra
movement in the joint (small amounts of extra
"give" in unusual directions). This can lead
to inflammation and swelling inside the joint and
or to overload of the ligaments. >more |
Stenosis - Stenosis can cause
numbness down the legs or even in the hands and
feet. >more |
Sub-Acute Onset of Whiplash - A forward
neck position is a frequent cause of sub-acute
pain that starts later. >more |
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome symptoms include
weakness in the hand, numbness or tingling in the
thumb, and sometimes pain in the beefy part of the
thumb >more |

CT-Scan - A CT-Scan can be used to look for pinched nerves if
combined with with a myelogram. . |
MRI - Why doesn't MRI show soft-tissue injuries well?
This link will tell you more. |
Discogram - This test can be helpful in getting
more structural information about the disc than MRI can achieve. |
Considering a discogram? The risks are low, but the
fact that this is a deep spinal injection means that there's
about a 1-3/100 chance of infection, bleeding, or hitting a
nerve. |
Imaging and Diagnostic Tests - There are many Diagnostic
tests used in whiplash, but few help make a
diagnosis or design a good treatment plan. The
problem is that picture type tests such as x-ray,
MRI, and CT scans don't pick up the muscle and
ligament injuries commonly seen with this
disorder. |
X-Rays - They don't show soft-tissue injuries, the most
common problem. They can show a straightening of
the neck bones. |
Flexion-Extension Views - They are x-rays that involve
movement. For instance, in the neck, the patient
is told to look down and then back as far as
possible. An x-ray is taken at each extreme. This
allows the physician to look for any extra
movement that might be occurring between the
bones. Extra movement can mean instability. |
